I have used two different notations to indicate unknown last names. They are
SP-NAME and [NAME] where NAME is the last name of the known partner. If I don't
know a first name I usually use ?? instead. If I am not sure of a date, the date
begins with abt. Dates like 'Jan 1922' or '1922' are used when I am reasonably
sure they are correct, but I still would like the day of the month and the month
if you know it. Most dates that are like 'abt 1999' are pure guesses on my part.
